Yendi Phillips. Days after Yendi Phillips came close to snatching the Miss Universe crown, there is still speculation about to whether her answer to the question about capital punishment cost her the title.
A large section of the Jamaican public seems to think Yendi's answer to the question on capital punishment was too religious.
A day after the pageant, social networking site Facebook was abuzz with comments that her response was too god-centred.
However, speaking on Television Jamaica’s current affairs programme All Angles Wednesday night, Kingsley Cooper, Executive chairman of modelling agency, Pulse, disagreed.
According to Mr. Cooper, the judges represented a wide cross section of American celebrities who he thinks believe their success is a blessing and the result of divine intervention.
Carolyn Yapp, Miss Jamaica Universe 2009, who was also a guest on All Angles, said she was pleased with Yendi's approach to the question as she started out by saying the creator, which could mean any god from any religion and at the end; she gave her personal opinion on capital punishment
While acknowledging the importance of the final question in selecting the winner of the Miss Universe pageant, Mr. Cooper urged people not to think it was the only deciding factor.
